「在熱氣蒸騰的谷地裡，你能看見大自然最原始的力量，也能體驗日本人獨特的溫泉文化。」登別，是北海道最著名的溫泉鄉之一。這裡因火山地貌而誕生，泉質種類多達十種，被譽為「溫泉百貨公司」。對我而言，登別不只是觀光景點，而是一場融合自然、文化與療癒的體驗。
In Noboribetsu, steam rises out of the earth like the ground is still deciding what it wants to be. This is one of Hokkaido's most celebrated onsen towns, built on volcanic terrain and fed by ten different spring types, enough variety that locals call it the "department store of hot springs."
For us, Noboribetsu wasn't just a sightseeing stop. It was the kind of place that slows you down without asking permission.

登別的核心地標便是 地獄谷。硫磺蒸氣不斷從地面冒出，整個谷地白煙繚繞，走進去就像踏入「地獄」的意象。繼續往上走到 大湯沼，你會發現這裡像是一口巨大的天然鍋爐，湖水翻騰，溫泉源源不斷冒出，視覺上非常震撼。
The center of Noboribetsu is Jigokudani, Hell Valley. Sulfuric steam pushes up through the ground in thick white clouds, and walking through it feels exactly like the name suggests.Further up the trail, Oyunuma is something else entirely: a massive natural cauldron, the water churning and bubbling from below, hot spring water spilling out in every direction. Hard to look away.
小觀察：在日本文化裡，「地獄」並非單純負面，而是一種對自然力量的敬畏。把火山與溫泉並列為「地獄谷」，反而成為了象徵性的觀光名稱。
Worth noting: in Japanese culture, "hell" doesn't carry purely negative weight. Naming this volcanic landscape Jigokudani was less about fear and more about awe, a way of acknowledging a force too powerful to ignore. That framing says a lot about how the Japanese relationship with nature actually works.

對日本人來說，泡湯不是奢侈，而是一種日常儀式。登別特別能體現這個文化：多泉質並存：硫磺泉、鐵泉、鹽泉…不同泉質代表不同功效，從美肌到舒緩關節，當地人甚至會依照身體狀況挑選泡湯種類。身體與心靈的療癒：日本人相信「湯治」（透過溫泉療養）能治病養生。對觀光客來說，則是放鬆身心、體驗傳統的一種方式。
For Japanese people, the onsen isn't a luxury. It's a rhythm.Noboribetsu makes this especially clear. With ten different spring types, sulfur, iron, salt, and more, locals don't just come to relax. They come with intention, choosing a spring based on what the body needs that day. The practice of yuji, healing through hot springs, has roots going back centuries.
溫泉禮儀：泡湯前必須先洗淨身體、避免毛巾入池，這不只是規矩，更是一種尊重「共用泉水」的文化表現。
For visitors, the entry point is simpler: wash before you enter, keep the towel out of the water, share the space with respect. Small rules that point to something larger about how communal bathing is understood here.

白天的地獄谷壯觀，但如果有機會在夜裡散步，你會發現另一種氛圍。燈光映照下，白煙繚繞的山谷更顯神秘。回到飯店，換上浴衣，享用懷石料理後，再走進大浴場，感受十多種溫泉一次齊聚的「百貨公司」體驗。對我來說，這不只是泡澡，而是完整體驗「日本式休憩」的縮影。
Most people see Hell Valley during the day. If you get the chance to walk through after dark, it's a completely different experience. The steam catches the light differently, the valley goes quiet, and the whole place feels more like a scene from a dream than a tourist attraction.
Back at the ryokan, change into a yukata, sit down for kaiseki, then make your way to the grand bath. Ten spring types, all in one place. It sounds like a gimmick until you're actually in it, and then it just feels like the right way to end a day.

火山與文化的交織
登別是一個把自然劇場與文化習俗完美融合的地方。它既是火山孕育的壯觀地景，也是日本人生活哲學的展現。旅行途中，最打動我的不是單純的景點，而是「人與自然如何共處」的答案。
Noboribetsu holds two things in the same hand: a volcanic landscape that reminds you how young the earth still is, and a bathing culture that reminds you how long people have been learning to live alongside it. The most memorable part of this stop wasn't any single sight. It was the quiet answer to the question of how humans and nature decide to get along.
